A dungeon dug by many hands
Standing on the shoulders of giants

We did not invent this game.

Pixel Crawlers is the newest layer of a dungeon that brilliant people have been digging for over a decade. We want to be loud about exactly whose work you are about to enjoy.

Pixel Dungeon

Created by Watabou (Oleg Dolya)

In 2012, Watabou released Pixel Dungeon: a tiny, beautiful, savagely difficult roguelike for phones — and then gave the entire source code away. It became one of the most-forked games on GitHub and inspired a whole family of descendants. Everything beneath your feet starts here.

Shattered Pixel Dungeon

Created & maintained by Evan Debenham (00-Evan)

Evan Debenham took Pixel Dungeon and never stopped digging. More than a decade of dedicated work turned it into Shattered Pixel Dungeon — a roguelike of staggering depth: a roster of distinct heroes and subclasses, hundreds of items, genuine balance, and a community that has stress-tested every corner. We cannot say this plainly enough: the game you actually play here is, end to end, Evan's design and the Shattered community's craft.

Pixel Crawlers

This project — a community web port

So what did we do? We rebuilt it for the modern web. Not a fork, not an emulator — a ground-up reimplementation: a fresh engine written in TypeScript, rendered with Phaser, served by Django, so Shattered's exact design runs at full speed in any browser tab with nothing to install. And — in the only way that felt right — this platform is open source too. We added the web; the game is theirs. But any bugs are all ours. So let us know!

The port was the floor — and we built up
What the open web makes possible

Why rebuild a game that already exists?

Shattered Pixel Dungeon is already a masterpiece. If what you want is exactly that game, the best thing you can do is buy it and play it — it runs beautifully, offline, on every platform, and your money goes to the people who earned it.

We rebuilt it on the open web for a different reason. A browser, a shared server, and a deterministic engine make things possible that a single-player native app was never meant to do. The faithful port is the foundation — most of what we set out to build on top of it already ships in the build you sign up to today.

Live in your browser today
Live now

The dungeon on a clock

Realtime Solo is in the picker. Standing still no longer pauses the world — monsters keep advancing whether you act or not. Shattered's exact tactics, played under live pressure.

Live now

Real-time multiplayer

Co-op is open. Spin up a room, share the eight-character code, and run a shared dungeon with friends — each with their own hero, their own fog of war, no turn-taking, no lockstep.

Live now

Episodes & Seasons

The platform for hand-crafted, multi-floor adventures and persistent season-long arcs is wired end to end — engine, runner, picker — and ready to host stories as we author them. (Story content is what we're writing now.)

Live now

Daily & Weekly seeds

Everyone gets the same dungeon today, and a different one next week. A deterministic engine on a shared server means the runs are actually comparable — the foundation that ranked boards will sit on.

Still ahead
Coming

Honest leaderboards

Seed-pinned daily and weekly boards a server-authoritative engine can actually keep honest. The seed plumbing is already live — the boards on top of it are next.

Coming

Tools to build your own

An in-browser studio where anyone can author a complete adventure — map, encounters, dialogue, objectives — playtest it, and publish it. No install, no files to wrangle.

Coming

Made to be shared

Once the studio lands, the natural next step: a place to publish what you made, browse what others have made, and play it — alone or with friends.

Straight talk

We shipped the faithful roguelike first, and well, and then started adding the things SPD on your phone could never do. The Live now cards above are real and in today's build — sign up and play them. The Still ahead cards are real work in flight, not promises, and not in today's build — but the foundations each one sits on are already running.

Available now

What you can play right now

The full Shattered Pixel Dungeon experience, rendered faithfully — plus the things the open web lets us add on top:

  • Every hero and subclass, with their own kit and playstyle
  • The complete descent — every region, every boss, the Amulet of Yendor
  • The full item, scroll, potion and wand sandbox
  • Real permadeath roguelike runs — one life, one dungeon
  • Realtime Solo — the dungeon on a clock
  • Co-op multiplayer — share a room code, run a dungeon together
  • Daily & Weekly seeds — the same dungeon for everyone
  • Episodes & Seasons — the platform for hand-crafted arcs
  • Instant play in any modern browser, on desktop or phone
Honest about what's not

What we're still building

A few pieces of the open-web vision aren't in today's build: honest leaderboards on top of the daily/weekly seeds, an in-browser authoring studio, and the sharing surface that ties player-made content together.

The plan

We would rather ship one solid piece at a time than a pile of half-finished features. The platform is being built to grow into the rest — and most of what was on this card a year ago has already moved to the column on the left.

Free to play here — then go pay them
Open & free

Play it free, source and all

Everything Shattered Pixel Dungeon gives you is free here, and always will be — every hero, every floor, every run, for the price of a free account. The platform's own code is public, just like the games it honours.

Support the originals

Want it offline? Buy it.

This browser version needs a connection. Shattered Pixel Dungeon runs natively and offline on every platform — Steam, Google Play, the App Store, itch.io. Buying it there, or supporting Evan directly, is what funds a decade-and-counting of development. If you love what you play here, go give them your money. They have more than earned it.

Your dungeon is waiting

A free account is all it takes. No card, no download — just you, the stairs, and whatever is waiting below.
